2012 BMW 1 Series

The 2012 BMW 1 Series : The starting point for the ultimate driving experience.

Peterson BMW of Boise first introduced  the  entry-level 1 Series in 2002.   While BMW has certainly never lost sight of its “Ultimate Driving Machine” mission statement, it’s the 1 Series that most closely reflects the company’s roots.

Whether you prefer a coupe or convertible at Peterson BMW, the 1 Series features a traditional front-engine/rear-drive blueprint that is sure to delight purists or those just wanting an affordable way to get into a premium-badged BMW.  The 1 Series is an exciting car that strikes a balance between sports car and luxury coupe.

The 128i model features a dual overhead cam 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that puts out 230 hp and 200 lb/ft of torque and comes with a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed STEPTRONIC automatic at no extra cost.  When you drive the 1 Series at  higher speeds, the lower front fascia employs a set of aerodynamic “air curtains,” blocking and redirecting airflow to reduce turbulence in and around the wheel arches. Of course, the M Sport Package is always an available and fitting option for the 128i.

The BMW 1 Series is offered in 4 versions:

– 128i Coupe (MSRP $31,200)
-128i Convertible (MSRP $36,900)
-135i Coupe (MSRP $39,300)
-135i Convertible (MSRP $44,100)

The 135i  comes with a 3.0-liter, but this is an inline-six twin-scroll turbocharger with piezo fuel injection that boosts output to 300 hp and 300 lb/ft that can take you from 0-60 in 5 seconds flat. It also comes in a six-speed manual or an advanced automatic, seven-speed double-clutch transmission (DCT) that lets you shift using the gear selector or paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The 135i also offers an equally impressive fuel economy at 28 highway mpg estimated on the six-speed manual and 25 highway mpg on the DCT.

The exterior of the 2012 1 Series receive new overarching LED-light strips, while taillights incorporate the familiar “hockey-stick” accents found throughout the rest of the BMW family. New colors of Vermillion Red Metallic and Marrakesh Brown Metallic join the family of exterior colors, while new Alpine White interior trim becomes available as a no-cost option. Oyster Boston Leather replaces last year’s Lemon Boston Leather and supple leatherette upholstery remains standard throughout the lineup. Eight-way power front seats with four-way power lumbar support are also standard equipment on the 135i Coupe and 135i Convertible.

Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity also joins the slate of standard features on all models, as does an iPod/USB adapter, automatic climate control, HD Radio, cruise control and a three-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel. And buyers who enjoy a weekend getaway to the slopes will appreciate the now-standard “Through-Load” system with integrated transport bag for skis.

Also available as standalone items or as part of various packages, optional equipment includes heat for the steering wheel and front seats, a Navigation System with iDrive and Real Time Traffic, a 300-watt, 10-speaker Harman/Kardon surround sound audio system and SIRIUS Satellite Radio with a free one-year subscription.
